Liverpool have been far from their best this season and that has been evident. The Reds went into the current season with the hopes of retaining their Premier League title, but have instead had to face the cruel reality of a possible top-four battle after bad luck with injuries and a string of poor performances.

There have been plenty of theories as to why the Reds haven’t been up to par this season and I think there are many factors that play into it, but one journalist for the Telegraph has his own idea for the reason for Liverpool’s downfall this season.

Jason Burt has stated that he believes the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have been guilty of putting the brakes on since Jurgen Klopp managed to win the Champions League and Premier League in back-to-back seasons and was made pretty evident during the recent January transfer window in which the club initially failed to strengthen their defensive options in the market until he. very last day when the club no longer had any fit senior centre-backs, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

I think I have to agree with Burt here as what he says makes complete sense in regards to how the events we have witnessed this season unfolded.

FSG have been known in the past to not want to plunge too much money into the transfer windows of old and after watching Klopp and his squad’s dominance both domestically and on the European stage, our owners clearly felt that the German could work wonders no matter what but we all know this isn’t the case.

Klopp may have been able to work with what he has had before but when you take away the players that have been injured this season as well as failing to really invest in the summer previous in regards to the depth of the squad then you can see that even Klopp had his work cut out this season.

What do you think Liverpool fans, do you agree with Burt’s opinion? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
