Liverpool journalist sings praises of Reds youngster’s performance

|

The Reds cruised out as 2-1 victors over Tottenham last night at Anfield, with Liverpool taking the top spot in the Premier League on 28 points after 13 games so far this season.

Reaction to the victory dominated social media after the game, with The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce quickly voicing his thoughts on who his Man of the Match was against the North London outfit, with the journalist singling out Liverpool teenager Curtis Jones for another fine performance for the first team…

I can’t disagree with anything that Pearce says – it was another impressive performance from Jones who has grown to become one of the most important players in not just the club’s midfield, but the whole squad.

The lad was everywhere on the pitch and really dominated that left side of midfield throughout the game having 129 touches throughout the game and completing 93.8% of his passes throughout the game, with the youngsters development skyrocketing over the past few months with him receiving a great amount of game time this season.

Jones managed 4 interceptions in midfield against Spurs and really helped the Reds to dominate possession throughout the game, something that saw the club keep 68% of the possession throughout the game.

The 19-year-old was a threat going forward too, with him managing 3 shots during the game with 2 key passes, with him even managing to essentially set up Mo Salah for the opening goal after his great work on the ball in the Spurs box in the first-half, with the Egyptian managing to get hold of the ball and his shot deflecting off of Toby Alderweireld’s leg to give Liverpool the lead.

Although not officially being given the assist for Salah’s goal, without Jones’ work in the box, the winger would never have been given the opportunity for the shot, so in my eyes, the assist goes to him.

It was a fine performance from the youngster and there is hope we will see more of that from him in the games to come.

What do you think Liverpool fans, were you impressed with Curtis Jones’ performance? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
