After sustaining a difficult injury against Everton last weekend, the full extent of Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson’s injury has been uncovered, with him undergoing surgery this morning on his groin.

The 30-year-old pulled up during the first half of the Merseyside Derby and attempted to carry on, but was substituted just a few minutes later by Nat Phillips, with there being plenty of worry between the club’s physio team of the full extent of Henderson’s time on the sidelines.

According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, the captain underwent successful surgery after visiting a specialist in London this week and now faces around 8 weeks on the sidelines until the start of April if his recovery goes as planned, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

It serves as another massive blow for the club this season with plenty of players already spending time on the sidelines so far. There is no secret that the club has suffered at the hands of injuries this season and has struggled without their best players throughout the campaign at times.

Big names such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Alisson, Fabinho, Thiago, and Diogo Jota have all spent a long time on the sidelines at some point this season with both Van Dijk and Gomez out for the majority of the campaign.

Is Jordan Henderson Liverpool's most important player?

Yes

No

Hopefully, Henderson will be able to recover quickly, and it is good news that the surgery went so well given the worry and suspense over the severity of his groin injury. The captain is one of the most important players in our squad and the Reds often look lost without him at times – but the team will have to make do without their captain for the foreseeable.
