Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over West Ham at the weekend is still the topic of conversation within the media, but apparently, for all the wrong reasons.

During his press conference yesterday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp defended Egyptian winger Mo Salah over the penalty incident that leveled the game for the Reds just before half time.

James Pearce, the Liverpool correspondent for The Athletic, tweeted Klopp’s response from the press conference when the question was raised over the legitimacy of the penalty incident.

Salah was heavily criticised on TalkSPORT yesterday and by others over the past few days over his supposed theatrics from the challenge, but the Liverpool manager clearly feels differently about the incident – “It was a foul… There was clear contact… I don’t understand the criticism”.

Was Mo Salah's penalty vs West Ham legitimate?

No

Klopp was likely to defend his player, but a foul was clearly committed given the officials awarding of the penalty and the VAR review that deemed the penalty legitimate. The penalty was converted by the Egyptian in the 42nd minute, and the Reds went on to win the game 2-1.

The win put the club top of the Premier League table after 7 games and sets them up for their next league game against Manchester City on Sunday.
