According to a report from Italian news outlet TUTTOmercatoWEB, Liverpool have reached a ‘general agreement‘ over Bayern Munich star and heavily reported target Thiago Alcantara – but both the Reds and Bayern Munich are still at an impasse when it comes to the transfer fee despite potentially edging closer.

Thiago, who has refused to put pen-to-paper on a contract extension at the Allianz Arena, is reportedly set on a move away from the Bundesliga as he looks to secure one of the last big money transfers of his career – with journalist Melissa Reddy in the Independent relaying the news he is ‘available‘.

Will Liverpool manage to land Thiago?

However, due to recent events impacting finances, Liverpool may be unwilling to splash the cash on his reported £30 million fee – a figure which could even rise.

Described as ‘world class‘, Thiago doesn’t exactly appeal to Fenway Sports Group when it comes to age (29), salary demands and potential fee – but TUTTOmercatoWEB claim that there is a ‘general agreement’ in place between manager Liverpool and Bayern.

Indeed, manager Jurgen Klopp was allegedly convinced through Thiago’s contract situation to take a step forward in signing the playmaker – but a transfer fee is still yet to be agreed upon.

The Italian news outlet claim that there could still be plenty of time to complete a potential deal, with Bayern not standing in the way of Thiago’s exit despite his impressive numbers over 2019/2020.

Enticed by the passing midfield player, who has averaged a 90.5% success rate this season, supporters will have to wait and see if the transfer does indeed come to fruition.
