Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool seems interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Škriniar in the wake of Virgil van Dijk’s hamstring injury.

According to Inter Live, the Reds could make an offer in the region of £35m for the 27-year-old Slovakian. Škriniar is out of contract at the end of the season. Inter Milan has already given an updated offer. However, if he doesn’t accept new terms, they would prefer to sell him now rather than risk losing him for free. In addition to Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly interested in Škriniar.

Škriniar has a solid defensive presence and has shown his ability to win tackles, intercept passes, and have great aerial ability to win the ball which makes him an added threat on set pieces. In addition to his defensive skills, Škriniar has also shown an ability to contribute to his team’s attack with a total of three-goal contributions this season. His versatility and all-around game make him an asset.

While Virgil’s recovery period is not yet completely confirmed, he is surely missing out on the remaining fixtures in January. Liverpool does have cover, but Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are both injury-prone, meaning Ibrahima Konate will be the only center-back who can be trusted 100% to play week in and week out.

Signing Škriniar could be an intelligent move for Liverpool, providing the team with another top-quality center-back and allowing them to maintain a high level of play even if injuries occur. This also seems to be a deal that fits the FSG way of doing business of getting financially safer deals over the line rather than making multimillion-pound star signings.
