Liverpool managed to sure up their defensive options during the January transfer window with the signings of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak after the long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip.

Despite this, there is still a likelihood that the Reds will continue their defensive splurge in the market with Kabak only on a six-month loan with an option to buy at the end of the season and an interesting and possibly deal-breaking bit of news has formed surrounding one of Liverpool’s centre-back targets.

Sevilla’s 22-year-old French defender Jules Koundé has been linked with a number of clubs last summer with Manchester City also heavily linked with a move for the youngster but ultimately went with Ruben Dias from Benfica. However, Liverpool still remain in the race but the Spanish club has possibly put an end to the club’s interest in him.

Will Klopp improve the Liverpool squad this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

According to Spanish publication AS, Sevilla feel that Koundé can overtake Wissam Ben Yedder as their most expensive sale in the club’s history with them demanding £70 million for the Frenchman after turning down City’s £50 million bid last year. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester United are all also interested in the defender and will likely put up some real competition for his signature.

Due to Sevilla’s asking price I can’t see Liverpool sticking with their interest because of the price tag now put on Koundé – Liverpool isn’t known for splashing out like that on a player with Van Dijk still the club’s most expensive signing in the club’s history and even that was a big risk at the time despite his Premier League experience.

No disrespect to Koundé but there are players in the market that will be available in the summer that are of better quality and for a cheaper price so we shall see what root the club takes in the coming months.

What do you think Liverpool fans, would Koundé be a good fit? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
