Liverpool are reportedly ‘keen’ on signing Real Madrid winger, Marco Asensio, in the summer transfer window according to Fichajesnet.

The Spaniard’s current contract at the club is set to expire in June, where he will then be available to clubs on a free signing.

The Reds could look to capitalise on the 27-year-old’s situation by signing him as a cheap backup option to Mohamed Salah on the right-hand side of Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

Jurgen Klopp currently doesn’t have a natural back up option on that side of the attack, but has sometimes opted to use Harvey Elliott in that role.

Asensio has made 261 appearances for Real Madrid since his move from Espanyol in 2016, scoring 53 goals and assisting 29 in all competitions.

The winger has also struggled in front of goal for the Spanish National team, scoring just two goals in 35 games on the international stage.

The 27-year-old has made 26 appearances for Madrid so far this season, scoring four goals and assisting five.

Liverpool are currently preparing to face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, after finishing second behind Napoli in the group stage.

Jurgen Klopp will no doubt keep a close eye on Asensio, should he feature.

If he impresses, don’t be surprised if Asensio ends up at Anfield by the end of the summer transfer window.
