With the current defensive options slightly depleted after numerous injuries to the start of the season, the Reds have again been linked to a number of high-quality central defenders ahead of the January transfer window.
One name, in particular, that is doing the rounds would be an exciting addition to this Liverpool side – and that is David Alaba. However, the club will face heavy competition for the players signature.
The Austrian defender’s contract runs out with German and European Champions Bayern Munich this summer, meaning the 28-year-old would be available for a cut-price compared to his actual £58.50 million market value.
This season the defender has carried on showing the quality that he has displayed for Bayern for many years now – scoring in their last game against Borussia Dortmund where they won 3-2.

I think Alaba would be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side, especially given the deal they could get for the Austrian in the winter with his contract running down – not only this but he is versatile too, being able to play both centrally as well as down the left and at times, even in midfield on occasion.
Having seen Alaba play from time to time, I feel he would fit the style of Liverpool’s defence very well, as he is clearly very comfortable with the ball at his feet and can play out from the back – not only this but the player has a good bit of speed about him and no doubt would be very comfortable fitting into this Liverpool side, especially with former teammate Thiago now with the Reds to help ease him in.
With Virgil van Dijk most likely out for the entirety of this season, there would be no harm in bringing in another defender to provide further cover – and I think Alaba would be a great fit alongside Joe Gomez, who has really shown his qualities the past few weeks.
