Saturday night saw Liverpool fail to build on their 1-0 lead against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, with the Reds eventually going on to lose the game 3-1 after a late seven-minute flourish from the Foxes.

We know that Liverpool haven’t been at their best this season and there are plenty of valid reasons as to why our poor form has come about with injuries galore to many of our star players as well as struggling for confidence at times and an evident lack of energy in midfield – likely due to being worn out after such a long time of us playing at 110% over the past few seasons.

The Reds faithful have become accustomed to seeing Liverpool blow teams away in a matter of minutes over the last few years with their high-pressing and high-intensity play that has seen the Reds become one of the most feared teams in the world.

Leicester were another team that managed to take advantage of Jurgen Klopp and his side this season with them managing to capitalise on our weakened and inexperienced Liverpool defence with midfielder Jordan Henderson operating alongside new boy Ozan Kabak – via long balls over the top that split the Reds wide open, as well as draw out a clanger of a mistake between Kabak and Alisson, with the pair colliding during the 81st minute of the game when both attempting to meet one of those long-balls over the top to leave Jamie Vardy with an open goal to put the ball into.

Are Liverpool out of the title race?

Yes

No

It showed a clear lack of understanding between our defence and goalkeeper – with a 20-year-old new signing and a midfilder having to form a defensive partnership, it is surprising that Liverpool still finds themselves in the position in the table and points tally they currently have.

A moment of brilliance from Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah was no doubt the highlight of the game for the Reds but the overriding feeling of our confidence slowly slipping away is leaving me more and more worried each game week.

According to the LiverpoolEcho as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter, if a top-four finish isn’t achieved this season then the club could miss out on £150 million – something that could hamper any transfer plans and progression for the club in the summer and the near future…
