Liverpool have made an incredible amount of money over the years with transfer sales of some of our best players, with the likes of Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling, and Xabi Alonso leaving for mega-money transfers, just to name a few.

One player, in particular, owns the record for the biggest departure from the Reds by a long way and that is current Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho, who left Anfield in 2018 for a staggering £142 million, which funded much of Liverpool’s current stars with the likes of Alisson and Virgil van Dijk bought with the Coutinho money.

However, according to the Daily Mirror, as cited by Anfield Watch on Twitter, Liverpool are still yet to receive £35.5 million of this transfer fee with the Catalan club in a substantial amount of debt – meaning the Reds might not see the rest of the money they are owed for some time…

It had recently been revealed just how much debt Barcelona are in by Swiss Ramble on Twitter too, with them currently facing an incredible €820 million worth of debt, which is up 48% from their previous debt total of last year.

Should Liverpool re-sign Coutinho?

Yes, get the deal done

Yes, get the deal done

No, not worth the effort

The missing transfer fees in Liverpool’s favour could no doubt fund a new defender that the club so desperately needs with them suffering from options at the back thanks to the long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez – with only Joel Matip left as the clubs sole senior centre-back.

Despite calls for the club owners to invest in the defence this January, it is unlikely that it will happen – with just 5 days left of the window and still no sniff of a transfer to Liverpool, I don’t think we will be adding to the defence before the end of the window.
