Liverpool to battle Man Utd for La Liga forward

|

Liverpool will face competition from Manchester United in their interest for Athletic Bilbao forward, Nico Williams, according to theĀ Manchester Evening News.

The 20-year-old has had a breakthrough couple of years in Spain, playing alongside his perhaps more well-known brother, Inaki Williams.

The Spaniard has started 13 games for Bilbao so far this season, scoring three goals and notching four assists as well.

It is expected that Jurgen Klopp sees the youngster as a backup for Mohamed Salah on the right of Liverpool’s attack, and a potential replacement when that sad day arrives on Merseyside.

Liverpool’s transfer policy has seen them move for younger talents over recent years, signing the likes of Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay in the summer just gone.

Williams’ contract is currently set to expire in 2024 and it is expected that if negotiations don’t progress by the summer, then the club might be forced to consider selling the player rather than lose him on a free transfer the following summer.

The Reds seem to be linked with a long list of attackers lately, with the likes of Youssoufa Moukoko and Nico Williams being linked but surely a midfielder needs to be at the top of Liverpool’s transfer needs.

The January transfer window will certainly be an interesting one for the Reds, but certainly expect some sort of movement despite the current ownership situation.
