It appears as though we have another Michael Edwards masterclass on our hands after our famed Sporting Director may have pulled off one of the funniest sell-on clauses in the club’s history.

Back in 2019, English striker Danny Ings left the club after a successful loan period with Southampton, which saw the south coast club sign him on a permanent deal for a reported fee of just under £20million after failing to cement a spot in Liverpool’s starting XI due to injuries and a lack of games.

However, he has enjoyed a rebirth in his career at Southampton with him managing 22 goals last season in the Premier League last season which has seen interest in the 28-year-old skyrocket with Manchester City reportedly after the striker in the summer as a potential replacement for the outbound Sergio Aguero, with first-choice Erling Haaland too expensive an option given the current financial climate.

This means that Liverpool would see a 20% windfall of any transfer fee that Manchester City were to pay for Ings if they were to secure his signature at the end of the season, according to LiverpoolEcho as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

It would be amazing if the club were to receive a percentage of a future fee for Ings anyway but for it to come from Manchester City would be rather comical.

There is no bad blood with Manchester City – they are a fantastic club and deserve the success they have enjoyed in recent history but they have grown to become one of our modern-day rivals so to then receive a windfall from one of their transfers, and a big percentage windfall at that would just be a funny prospect.

Would Danny Ings start over Roberto Firmino?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Not only that but with the club trying to raise a healthy amount of funds for the summer themselves, then a percentage from the fee would be a huge boost for our own transfer prospects.
