This season has been far from the standard that Liverpool would have expected or been aiming for with their retainment of the Premier League title all but over.

Of course, this owes to the poor form and results of the squad who haven’t been playing to the standards that they have set the past few seasons with the club’s performances just not good enough. This on top of key absences such as Virgil van Dijk Joe Gomez, and the majority of the Liverpool starting XI at times this season has stunted any attempt at building form in the league.

One statistic that has been revealed that probably does owe to quite a bit of Liverpool’s bad luck and poor form during the current season as revealed by the Independent, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter. This season, no team has had more negative VAR decisions against them than Liverpool…

It is key to point out that these VAR decisions that are going against the Reds aren’t an excuse for the type of results and performances that the team has been producing and neither does it make it acceptable.

The team and Jurgen Klopp have themselves to blame but they know that – the players and Klopp have pointed out many times this season that they know they need to play better and that they hold themselves responsible for the club’s current position – but you can’t help but get frustrated when statistics such as this start to surface.
