The Reds ran absolute riot over an Atalanta team that initially had caused concern in the build-up to the game, but Jurgen Klopp’s men brushed the Italians aside with ease.

Overall, it was a great performance from the Liverpool side and showed their ability going forward and in defence, with Joe Gomez and Rhys Williams proving an impressive partnership to be able to keep a clean sheet.

Early on in the game, Diogo Jota showed signs that he would create a problem for the Atalanta backline and finally pulled the trigger in the 16th minute, with a beautiful dink over Sportiello to give the Reds the lead thanks to a lovely through ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Portuguese forward continued to impress, scoring his second of the game just 17 minutes later with a great touch and first time finish thanks to a long ball from Joe Gomez.

Liverpool were incredibly comfortable throughout the game, and at the start of the second half made it three thanks to a quick counter-attack from an Atalanta corner, with Mo Salah getting on the end of a Curtis Jones clearance to end up in a 2 v 1, but managed to shift the ball onto his stronger left foot to curl his effort into the top left of Sportiello’s goal.

It didn’t take long to make it four either, with Sadio Mané latching onto a Mo Salah through ball after a quick throw-in to dink Sportiello.

Again, just five minutes later, Diogo Jota completed his hattrick, thanks to another through ball from Mané, with Jota rounding the goalkeeper and firing the ball into an empty net.

It was a shame to see Jota come off just after the hour mark, likely due to a knock, but his performance truly inspired an incredible performance over La Dea.

Duvan Zapata continued to issue a threat to Liverpool’s defence despite his teammates failing to produce anything of merit throughout the game – hitting the woodwork twice throughout.

The reaction after the game was second to none from the Liverpool faithful, who were full of praise for the Portuguese attacker – with Liverpool account Empire of the Kop even comparing him to Messi!

Reds shot-stopper Alisson also produced a fine performance and despite Atalanta’s variety of chances, the Brazilian stood firm and made it count when called upon, keeping a clean sheet against the free-scoring Atalanta.

The win puts the Reds 5 points clear of second-placed Ajax, with their next game coming up against Manchester City in the Premier League this Sunday.
