Liverpool ran out 5-0 winners against Atalanta in the Champions League last night, and the reaction quickly addressed the performance of hat-trick hero Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese forward managed his first three-goal haul for the club, and from the first minute of the game looked certain to score.

Jota finished the game with just four shots but converted three of those chances highlighting his goal-scoring prowess since joining the Reds.

Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino was left on the bench after Jota’s recent run of form, having scored three goals in his last three games, and added to that tally tonight and helped to prove Jurgen Klopp’s decision a success.

James Pearce, the Liverpool correspondent for The Atheltic, showed his reaction to the match after the final whistle, including Jota’s performance.

Overall, it was an impressive performance from Klopp’s side but Jota especially, and it was a shame to see him forced off in the 65th minute – but that didn’t stop him claiming Man of the Match.

According to WhoScored, Jota managed a 9.92/10 match rating and certainly puts pressure on Firmino for a place in the front three alongside Sadio Mané and Mo Salah.

Their performance sets the club up well for their Premier League match against Manchester City come Sunday, and it will be interesting to see whether Jota starts over Firmino again…
