Last night marked Liverpool’s third win from three in the Champions League group stages after a 5-0 thrashing of Atalanta in Bergamo.

The Reds pinned the Italians back straight from the off and looked back to their finest form since last season despite the numerous injuries plaguing the squad at this current time.

One performance, in particular, has been the talk of the town – that of hattrick hero and Man of the Match Diogo Jota, who has caused quite a stir, even for Reds journalist James Pearce of The Athletic on Twitter, who believes that the in-form striker should start ahead of Roberto Firmino at the Etihad on Sunday when Liverpool take on Manchester City.

It is fair in saying that Jota is in the form of his life after his performance last night, and there is certainly a case to be made as to whether he should start ahead of Firmino in the game against City this weekend.

A win is needed against Pep Guardiola’s side no matter what if Jurgen Klopp’s side aim to retain their title this campaign, and with the front three’s performance last night, it would make sense for Mané, Jota, and Salah to be the go-to choice up top.

No matter the situation come Sunday, it is evident that Jota has been a fantastic signing for the club, and provided a new dimension to one of the best attacks in the world.
