It is always interesting to hear the arguments and cases brought forward on who was someone’s best player from each Premier League game week, especially when there have been so many fantastic individual performances.
Sky Sports have done just that for our viewing pleasure – with Stephen Warnock and Sue Smith battling it out with their proposed players, with Smith coming out on top after selecting new boy Diogo Jota as her Premier League player of the weekend.

Jota won the poll by a small fraction, edging Warnock’s option of Harry Kane by 52% to 48% – with Smith’s case for the Portuguese forward very hard to argue against after his impressive performance against the Foxes that earned him a Man of the Match award from Sky Sports themselves.

The forward has widely impressed since joining the club and has managed to fit right into a front three of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, and Mo Salah that looked as though it would remain the way it is, especially given the numbers the three players had produced together last season.
Harry Kane himself did have an impressive weekend for Spurs, managing another assist in his new role under Jose Mourinho – but this wasn’t enough to knock Jota off the top spot thanks to Smith’s arguments for the Liverpool forward.
Jota has been a revelation for the Reds since joining in September for £40 million and so far, it looks like a bargain to me! In my opinion, Jota has to go down as the signing of the summer so far, but we’ll get a better verdict on that come the end of the season, for now though, I’ll happily take him as the player of the weekend.
