Liverpool have suffered this season with a plague of injuries to their first-team squad, one of which being new boy Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard joined the club in September from German club Bayern Munich, for a fee of £19.80 million, and has since gone on to play two games for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the league.

His last game against Everton ended with the 29-year-old on the injury list with a bruised knee and was expected back sometime last week. However, this hasn’t been the case, and Thiago is yet to join up with the squad in training as of yet.

Is Thiago our best midfielder?

The Reds face Atalanta in the Champions League tomorrow evening, and it was hoped the midfielder would be fit in time for the game, but this doesn’t appear to be the case – with not much else being said on the matter by Klopp in his press conference from yesterday:

“Naby and Joel trained yesterday with the team, full, Thiago didn’t. So, that’s the situation.

“I have really no idea what I do with this information in the moment because yes, they trained, that’s good, it’s better than if they don’t train. But we have to see what we do with it.”

A slight boost was made in the statement that both Joel Matip and Naby Keita had returned to training as reported by the Liverpool Echo, but we may have to wait a little longer until we can see Thiago back on the pitch for the Reds again this season.
