Spanish midfielder Thiago joined the Reds this summer for just under £20 million from German champions Bayern Munich – adding further creativity and depth to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.

Since joining the club, Thiago has only played twice for the Reds with only one start against Everton in the Merseyside derby but impressed in both appearances, showing fans the talent and ability he possesses and can bring to this Liverpool side.

During the game against Everton last month, the 29-year-old sustained a knee injury after a red-card challenge from Toffees forward Richarlison in the 90th minute which has left Thiago on the sidelines ever since.

There have been brief updates on the midfielder’s progress in the early days of the injury and most recently, there were images released of him at the club’s new training ground in Kirkby – leading to myself and I’d imagine many other Liverpool fans excited and expectant of a soon return to action for the midfielder.

However, yesterday Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp stated, via the Daily Mirror, that despite some light rehab work as of late and no idea of when his actual return to full training will be.

Klopp stated: “I’m as surprised as the public. In the morning I come in, we have a medical meeting and they tell me ‘yes he is in, he is not’.” – this has left me rather confused as to when we may even see Thiago back in a Liverpool shirt, let alone training with the squad once again.

It is obvious that the injury he sustained was more serious than initially thought, meaning it is unlikely we will see him feature tomorrow in the Champions League – sure enough though, when the time is right, Reds fans can relish once again watching one of the worlds greatest midfielders turn out for our club.
