Since breaking into the Liverpool first team all the way back in 2016 under Jurgen Klopp, 22-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold has been a revelation not just for Liverpool but for the footballing world as a whole.

The youngster has helped to revolutionise the full-back role alongside with some of the best talent in the world and has grown to become one of the most exciting and expensive players in the world, with a current market value of £99 million according to Transfermarkt.

For me, Trent has been one of my favourite players for the club for a long time and with him being a local lad, it makes that admiration and understanding even stronger – as you feel as though he understands exactly what the fans want and desire as he is one himself.

Recently, however, we have seen a real dip in form from the youngster compared to the usual standards that we have gotten used to over recent seasons and it has had a big impact on not just him but the squad too.

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold become the next Liverpool captain?

Yes

No

I think that when Trent is on form and firing on all cylinders, the rest of the squad often follows suit as his passing ability, creativity and the assists and chances that he provides for our front three are unrivaled and hard to replicate in other areas of the pitch or with other players filling in his position when absent.

During our loss to Southampton on Monday night, it was highlighted by Sky Sports during the game that the 22-year-old had given the ball away 38 times during his 77 minutes on the pitch – which turned out to be the most of any player in the Premier League so far this season and clearly shows his dip in form and even confidence at this point.

There is hope yet that Trent will begin to regain his form along with the rest of the squad – but let us pray that it is sooner rather than later.
