During Jurgen Klopp’s press conference yesterday, the talk turned to the players currently sat on the club’s sidelines due to injury, with one player very close to a return to the starting XI for the club.

Freelance football journalist David Lynch was on hand to tweet the news for Liverpool fans, revealing that £99 million rated Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned to training with the squad, meaning we could see him return this weekend against Wolves…

The club will have to be careful with Alexander-Arnold’s fitness ahead of the Wolves game on Sunday, he has been out of training for almost a month now after picking up an injury in the club’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City and it is important for his return to the pitch not to be rushed in fear of worsening the injury.

Will Trent Alexander-Arnold become the next Liverpool captain?

Yes

No

Despite the concern, it is a big confidence boost for both the club and the fans to have a player of Trent’s ability and talent to be returning to the squad at such an important time of the season with a busy schedule of games ahead over the winter period.

I think even if Trent were to come on for the second half or on the hour mark, he has the talent to turn a game on his head and his passing ability is as good as anyone in the world at times, with the youngster registering 15 assists in all competitions last season.

Klopp will no doubt be optimistic of the return of the defender, with his reliance on his full-backs going forward so evident over the past few seasons with Andy Robertson also playing a big role for the German, so this can only spell good things for Liverpool fans.
