It had recently been revealed by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp that he is unsure as to whether the club will make a defensive signing this month despite calls from many to do so due to the lack of availability after long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
Plenty of names have been linked with a move to the Reds this month and in the summer, with another young defender being named recently, with the club reportedly working behind the scenes and following his development carefully ahead of a potential future move – and that is RC Lens’ 20-year-old centre-back Loïc Badé.
Who should Liverpool sign in January?
After the French club was recently promoted to Ligue 1, Badé has impressed during his 16 league appearances so far this season, catching the eye of Liverpool’s scouts thanks to helping Lens to 9th in Ligue 1 so far this campaign – a good start to their first season in the top division after promotion.
Badé has averaged 2.2 tackles, 2.8 interceptions, and 3.9 clearances per game, on top of his 4.3 aerial duels won per game. That’s a pretty good average and clearly shows the amount of defending the club has to do each game yet they still sit in 9th despite being newly promoted and evidently weaker than the other sides in the league.
Whether this will be a transfer that we actually see materialise in the future is unknown but it is clear that Badé is a real talent and a player for the future, which is a trait that the Reds tend to look towards and go for when signing or scouting players.
Despite it being reported that the Reds will scrap their initial plans and will try to bring in reinforcements this month, Klopp’s comments just don’t make it seem likely and I can’t see a situation where we will see a new face at Anfield in the coming weeks.
