There is no doubt that Liverpool are in need of some defensive reinforcements with injuries to the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez leaving the pair sidelined for the rest of the season – and with only one fit senior centre-back in Joel Matip who has also struggled with fitness this season.

Due to the injuries in defence, we have seen the likes of midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson having to play at centre-back together – which has had a big impact on the rest of the squad and the performances this season with our usual system having to go out of the window.

Liverpool have been linked with plenty of defensive options over the past few months, with one of the most experienced and talented players in Europe being linked with a move to Merseyside in the summer with his contract coming to an end – and that is Bayern Munich’s David Alaba.

Do you think Alaba would be a good signing?

The Austrian has also been under the interest of Real Madrid, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano all but confirming that the Spanish club had secured the player with a pre-contract agreement but according to Alaba’s father, this isn’t the case.

According to TalkSPORT, his father George told Sport1 that no agreement had been reached and that he and his son were still focused on the remainder of his career at Bayern with interest from plenty of other clubs, including Liverpool.

This also falls in line with BILD’s Head of Football, Christian Falk’s, claims on Twitter – with him stating that despite Real Madrid being the favourites to sign Alaba, Liverpool are still interested and working hard to secure his signature…
