The news broke last week that the Egyptian Olympic squad has been announced and included the name of Liverpool’s £99m-rated star forward Mohamed Salah for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo in the summer.

Despite not notifying the club about the decision, the Egyptian Olympic Committee have stated that they wish to have Salah as part of the squad for the competition and have yet to hear the opinions of the player himself or even start official discussions with Liverpool in regards to the matter.

Recent revelations have also highlighted that if Salah were to represent his country this summer at the Olympics, he would miss the whole of the club’s pre-season as well as the opening weeks of the 2021/22 season according to Goal, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

It is fair to assume that the club are very frustrated by the news and will no doubt try their best to negotiate with Egypt to try and keep Salah at the club and away from the Olympics where let’s be realistic, he should be nowhere near.

I understand that Egypt wishes to have Salah as part of their squad and rightly so. The winger is one of the best players in the world and the country wants their best players available with the hopes of winning gold at the competition in the summer but it just isn’t a realistic proposition.

Is Mohamed Salah underappreciated by fans of other clubs?

You wouldn’t see Cristiano Ronaldo leave Juventus to feature for Portugal or Lionel Messi leave Barcelona to feature for Argentina at the Olympics, so why should we expect that from Salah? Either way, a resolution needs to be met as the impact of Salah missing Liverpool’s opening weeks of the season shouldn’t even be on the table.

What do you think Liverpool fans, will Salah go to the Olympics? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
