He answered the calls and he came calling.

Apart from the result, the Reds did everything they could. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t our night as we crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage.

As I previously mentioned, the stage was set for Roberto Firmino to shine against Atletico Madrid, and he certainly produced the goods.

We had to wait until extra-time to see Firmino get himself on the scoresheet, after he was the quickest to react to his shot cannoning off the post, and left himself with the simple job of putting us 2-0 up in the tie.

Who was your man of the match from the Atletico defeat?

Roberto Firmino

Firmino, who has represented Brazil on 44 different occasions, had five shots on goal, successfully dribbled past two defenders and accumulated pass success rate of 85%, as per Sofascore. The great thing about his performance was that he never gave up and put everything on the line for the shirt, and deserved his goal.

It’s no secret that he is a popular figure among his teammates and pundits, with captain Jordan Henderson completely in awe of some of the things that he does in training, as per Goal.

Firmino is widely labelled as the instigator for this team as a result of the above. Flawless work rate, a fantastic attitude and wonderful ball control. Firmino will hopefully become the rightful recipient of a Premier League winners medal, to match his Champions League honour. Perhaps now we will see him fire more goals in at Anfield towards the end of the season, after finally breaking his duck.
