Liverpool have been linked to plenty of talent over recent months in all areas of the pitch, with some of Europes best young players being mentioned with a possible move to the Reds in the near future.

Names such as Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Dayot Upamecano, and Ibrahima Konaté have all been linked with a possible move to Merseyside in the future but recent rumours surrounding this former Golden Boy winner seemed to have some concrete belief behind them.

It had been reported that the Reds had agreed an £18 million deal with French club Lille for 23-year-old Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches, who had been performing extremely well for them this season with the club currently sat top of Ligue 1.

However, on Tuesday afternoon it was then reported by renowned Italian football journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, that despite Sanches being on the list of many top club’s at the moment, Liverpool have nothing agreed in place for the January transfer window for a move for Sanches and that they are still waiting for a decision to be made ahead of the summer in regards to Gini Wijnaldum and whether he will stay at the club or leave for pastures new…

What this means for the club is unknown, but it is clear that the club would ideally like to keep hold of Dutchman Wijnalduma after his impressive time at the club since joining in 2016 from Newcastle and helping the Reds to lift the Champions League and Premier League title in consecutive seasons.

As great as an addition to the squad as Renato Sanches may be, there is no denying Wijnaldum’s importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side and I completely understand why the club is hesitant to make any deals in advance with the Dutchman still hung in the balance in regards to his contract.
