The Reds have struggled with their defensive options this season and it has taken a real toll on the squad’s performances in the league, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and eventually, Joel Matip all finding themselves sidelined for the remainder of the season.
January signings such as Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak have aided their options at the back, with Kabak starting the last two games alongside Nat Phillips with the pair managing back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League and Champions League.
However, this hasn’t stopped the club from being linked with other defensive talents across Europe with the likes of RB Leipzig’s French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté being linked with a move to the Reds, as well as current loanee Kabak joining permanently in the summer with an option to buy of £18 million.

Inter Milan’s 21-year-old starlet Alessandro Bastoni has recently been linked with a move to Anfield, with Italian outlet Calcio Mercato reporting that Liverpool have made an enquiry for his services at the end of the season with the club said to be very interested in securing his signature after such an impressive start to life at Inter.
The Italian club isn’t looking to sell the youngster and is trying to tie him down to a new long-term contract, which means securing his services will not come cheap for the club.
With a current market value of £45 million according to Transfermarkt, signing Bastoni will come with a hefty price tag and one that may be out of Liverpool’s reach given their targeted areas of the squad that they wish to strengthen.
I personally feel that securing the permanent signature of Kabak in the summer makes the most sense for the club in regards to the price they will pay as well as the fact that he has settled in so well at the club and is starting to show his quality.
