The club have been heavily linked with making some big moves in the summer transfer window in the coming months and plenty of names have been rumoured to be targets of the club for next season.

After news broke a few weeks back over the prospect that the club would look to sign one new attacker ahead of the 2021/22 season, it has also been revealed how the club will likely sign a new centre-back too to ensure that the antics and struggles of this season will not be repeated.

One of the big names that look to be closing in on a move to the club is that of RB Leipzig’s 21-year-old French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté after it was revealed yesterday morning by David Ornstein that Liverpool were trying to finalise a deal and it appears thing’s progressed further last night, with the club reportedly ready to pay the Frenchman’s €41.5million release clause according to ESPN, as cited by AnfieldWatch on Twitter…

If the news is true and the club are prepared to pay the fee then I think it is a great bit of business from the board and Michael Edwards once again, with Konaté one of the finest young defenders in Europe in my opinion.

With a current crop of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip all set to return from injury at the end of the season and the possibility of Ozan Kabak also joining on a permanent deal in the summer we could be looking at a fantastic depth in defence with Nat Phillips continuing to prove himself on the main stage too.

Whatever the summer holds, there is contentment knowing that the Reds will be making some important signings in the summer to strengthen the squad and contend for the title once again.
