It has become clear that the Reds could do with bringing in some defensive cover this month or even in the summer if need be, after injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez has left the club with just one senior centre-back in Joel Matip.

The club have been linked with plenty of options at the back, with the likes of Dayot Upamecano, Milan Skriniar, David Alaba, Perr Schuurs, and Roger IbaƄez to name a few – but one name that has become available with his contract ending with his parent club in the summer is Real Madrid veteran and club captain Sergio Ramos.

Liverpool had been one of the club’s along with Manchester United to be linked with a move for the 34-year-old Spaniard this month but according to The Athletic, Ramos is set to sign a new contract with Real to likely see him retire at the club – and in my opinion, good riddance.

Who is Liverpool's best CB right now?

The name ‘Ramos’ is only mentioned on Merseyside in whisper tones after the defender’s actions in the 2018 Champions League final left the Reds without star forward Mohamed Salah during the form of his life after dislocating the Egyptian’s shoulder in the final, leading to him being substituted off and the Reds subsequently losing the game 3-1 to the Spanish club.

It would have been very unlikely for the club to sign Ramos given the fans’ opinion on him and I think it would have been a crazy move if the club were to actually go for him – luckily for me and the rest of the Liverpool faithful, a move for Ramos would go against their transfer policy completely and not only that, I feel as though the senior members at the club feel the same way as the fans about the incident during the final.

What do you think Liverpool fans, are you glad that the club has turned their backs over a move for Ramos? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
